Dance improvisation as movement research by Mimi Jeong

 

 
In this 3 hour class dancers will have the opportunity to search for their individual body expressions in the space.
Many dancers have their own patterns of movements as habits ; in this class we will use improvisational tools to awake one’s own movement possibilities and rise the range of own body languages.

Content:
– Gets the perception of own body to helps to focus on own anatomical perception, space and with others through breathing.

-Fundamental movements in space, experiment of space in different dimensions and time in all its different dynamics.

– Working with partner and integration with simple choreography

The workshop will help providing more pleasure in working alone and will expand the diversity in the improvisation with a single partner or a bigger group.

The tools that Mimi Jeong will use in this workshop are inspired by her experience in german Tanztheater, Korean traditional dance and somatic improvisation.

Required: Curiosity of body movements, open mind, sense of space in collective work

Profile of the participants: dance students to professional dancers, as well as movement oriented performers

Biography of Mimi Jeong (Korea/Germany)
Mimi Jeong is a South Korean choreographer and dancer based in Berlin, Germany. In 2005 She received her degree at the Folkwang University in Essen, Germany and since 2003 has been working as a dancer and a choreographer in the Theater Bremen, Theater Münster, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Akademie der Künste Berlin, Compagnie Anna Huber, bodytalk Köln, steptext Bremen, Nyoba kan Butoh dance group Malaysia and a multimedia group Urbanscreen Bremen with numerous choreographers like Pina Bausch, Reinhild Hoffmann, Urs Dietrich, Emanuel Gat, Rami Be’er, Ingun Bjonsgaard, Tero Saarinen, Henrietta Horn, Samir Akika, Kuo-Chu Wu, Daniel Goldin, Anna Huber and Swee Keong Lee.
2008 she started to create her own dance pieces and performed them in Theater Bremen.

She has also been invited as a choreographer to different Festivals like Extra Frei, Tanz Bremen and Freier Tanz im Delta in Theater Felina Areal Mannheim. Parallel to her work she is currently receiving a Master degree in Choreography (MAC) in the Hochschulübergreifendes Zentrum Tanz Berlin (HZT).
