As part of the Festival of Rights being organised by the Malaysian Bar Council and HAKAM to mark World Human Rights Day 2002, there will be a half-day seminar entitled ‘Freedom of Expression in the Arts’.
Artistes from the various arts will have an opportunity to discuss the problems they have faced in relation to censorship and the effect that censorship has had on the development of their work. Some of the topics include Censorship and the Eradication of Culture, Artistes’ Experiences of Censorship in Malaysia, and Legal Framework and the Next Step.
Speakers include Professor Ghulam Sarwar, Marion D’Cruz, Eddin Khoo, Jo Kukathas, Teck Tan, Joe Kidd, Hasnul Saidon, Ann Lee, Kathy Rowland, Animah Kosai and Malik Imtiaz.

German mime artist, Ulrich Gottlieb, will present a solo mime performance fresh from his European arts festival tour. Body language will never be the same again!!

The Ellie-Zhou Ballet Studio is presenting Dance Waves – a programme of 8 works featuring mainly senior students of the school. The works will range in style from jazz, ballet and contemporary to Chinese dance and also Korean dance.

In the last of the Dance Box Series for 2002, DanceZap Production will present Earth Light, a tribute to mother earth. Presented in two sections, Brown and Green, the audience will be taken from ancient times to the future, pondering humanity’s inseparable relationship with the planet through the universal language of dance.
Those who watched Sun Walker in the MyDance Festival 2001 will remember DanceZap’s powerful dance moves and strong sense of theatricality. This performance is presented by MyDance Alliance in collaboration with The Actors Studio.

Presented by the Sel & KL Kwang Tung Association Youth Section’s Dance Troupe, ‘Kua Bu IV – Lets Party!’ is the fourth in its series of annual performances by beginners and intermediate students. In addition to performing the students are involved backstage, front of house and with general administration. This is to enable them to acquire a well-rounded practical experience in dance production work.
The performance comprising several pieces choreographed by the teachers of the association (Cheong Lin Poo, Michelle Yong, Kenzo de Tuan and Amy Len Siew Mee) will reflect the wide range of training the students have been exposed to from contemporary dance, Chinese dance and ballet to theatre and improvisation skills.
