Canada Dance Festival Mandate
The Canada Dance Festival is a presenter of contemporary Canadian dance, a partner and a community player that facilitates the development of the art form, its artists and its appreciative audience.

Canada Dance Festival Artistic Mission
The Canada Dance Festival’s artistic mission is to celebrate the enormous wealth of dance in Canada by presenting the best of new Canadian choreography to a wide public, and thereby make a significant impact on the development of Canadian dance artists.

The Festival raises the profile of dance in the eyes of the national and international public and media, and fosters a healthy and stimulating environment for community exchange. The biennial Festival produces and promotes the newest artistic creations from a broad range of the country’s choreographers.

It is programmed with sensitivity to regional considerations, cultural diversity and audience development; it provides a window for the international community on Canadian dance artists; and it plays a critical role in the overall growth and development of the art form, nationally and internationally.

The Canada Dance Festival takes place in Ottawa every two years in the early part of June. As a national festival, it brings together over 200 artists from across the country to participate in the 10-day event. In any given year, between three and six provinces are represented by their artists.

Additionally, we attract close to 60 Canadian and foreign impresarios and media who come to the Festival to follow the developments of Canadian dance and, in turn, to select artists for invitation to their respective festivals and series.
