ASWARA presents
International Dance Day
In conjunction with Get Malaysia Dancing – National Dance Tour (Special Edition)
by Faculty of Dance, ASWARA and Sime Darby Yayasan
The goal of the “International Dance Day Message” is to celebrate Dance, to revel in the universality of this art form, to cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers and bring people together through the common language of Dance. 2015 message by choreographer Israel Galván begins “Carmen Amaya, Valeska Gert, Suzushi Hanayagi, Michael Jackson…I see them as energy-generating turbines and this makes me think about the importance of choreography on that energy of the dancer. The important thing is probably not the choreography, but specifically that energy, the whirlwind which it triggers.”
For International Dance Day in ASWARA, one of Malaysia’s leading institutions of dance, FREE workshops for ALL who are interested to learn about local culture and dances that are rarely practiced, taught and are facing extinction, will be made available. Masterclasses on Hip Hop, ballet and contemporary dance for young people (and those young at heart) will also be taught as these are popular forms of dance in Malaysia.
The following are the Masterclass teachers:
• Lee Swee Keong – Butoh
• Hafzan Zannie Hamza – Malay Folk Dance
• Cecilia Yong – Latin
• Boojae – Hip Hop
• Choong Wan Chin – Classical Ballet
• January Low – Odissi
